Is concrete and cement the same thing?
Though often used as the same, they are definitely different. Cement is a basic ingredient to concrete and is mixed with sand, gravel or stone, and water to form a paste that glues everything together for form concrete.
Does concrete always have to be gray?
Not at all! Concrete has many colors and special finishes you can use for concrete pavement or concrete slabs. A skilled decorative concrete contractor can create almost any shape, pattern, color , or texture for both inside and outside applications.
When can I park on my concrete driveway?
The American Concrete Institute and the American Pavement Association recommend at least 7 days after concrete placement before parking or driving on a concrete driveway.
How does weather affect concrete installation?
Temperature, moisture, and wind can affect the rate concrete hardens. In cold weather, you need to heat some of the ingredients and protect fresh concrete from freezing. Hot weather may mean cooling materials or working it at night to avoid extreme weather conditions. Wind can dry concrete out and cause surface cracking. Rain weakens the surface. We take all these into consideration to ensure your concrete has the best result.
Asphalt or concrete for my driveway?
While concrete driveways are initially more to install, they last over 30 years with little maintenance. Asphalt driveways need regular sealing coats to slow age-related cracks, plus they deteriorate more quickly. Factoring in surface and crack sealers with shorter lifespan for asphalt, concrete costs far less overall.
What is concrete sealer?
Once concrete is cured and allowed to air dry for 30 days, it is ready to be sealed. A concrete sealer protects against moisture and deicing salt penetration into the surface of the concrete. This limits surface damage caused by freezing and thawing. After initial application, it should be applied every 2-3 years. It is a simple process you can do yourself or call us and we can do it for you.
How do I maintain concrete surfaces?
To keep the surface safe from weather damage, apply concrete sealer every 2-3 years. In addition, follow these guidelines: Do not allow rusty metal to set on the concrete; Frequent sweeping and occasional hosing off keeps it looking great, do not let wet leaves set as the stain; Do not drive or park on new concrete for 7 days; Do not allow water to drain beneath concrete slab; Do not allow snow or ice to accumulate the first winter – shovel it off; Do not apply deicing chemicals the first winter – shovel it off and use sand for traction; and finally, Never use deicers with ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate as they will destroy concrete

These guys (father-son duo) are life-savers! I called several businesses - two didn't return my phone calls and after speaking with two others they simply didn't show up... We had Alpha Concrete redo the steps to our front door. There are a lot of steps that are windy and the original steps were quite old, broken in parts, and not to code. Alberto provided a very reasonable estimate but more importantly, did a great job with our steps. It was not an easy job but he managed to make the steps wider from original, ensured they were even all the way up, remeasuring several times. Alberto is a perfectionist who takes pride in his work. Despite the work expanding in scope as he had to add a step or two and make then wider, he stayed in the original budget.
